Vitamin E Tocotrienols Are Powerful Weapon against Breast Cancer

Recently, we have learned that vitamin E tocotrienols maybe a powerful weapon against breast cancer. There are basically two types of breast cancer: estrogen-positive and estrogen-negative. Estrogen-positive cancers are estrogen-sensitive, which means that estrogen can stimulate the tumors to grow. Estrogen-negative cancers are not affected by estrogen. Younger women tend to develop estrogen-negative cancers, whilepostmenopausal women typically have estrogen-positive cancers. The anti-estrogen drug tamoxifen has been used successfully in both the prevention and treatment of estrogen-positive cancer, but it is not effective against estrogen-negative cancer. Tamoxifen can also produce devastating side effects including uterine cancer.
Researchers from the University of Western Ontario published a study comparing the effect of tamoxifen and tocotrienols on both estrogen-positive and estrogen-negative breast cancer cells. In the test tube, tocotrienols inhibited the growth of both kinds of breast cancer cells. In fact, tocotrienols worked so well that researchers are considering the option of integrate them in breast cancer therapy along with tamoxifen and other drugs, which are also known to avoid breast cancer in high-risk women. Theclinical trials testing the tocotrienols benefits on breast cancer patients also combined with other network antioxidants such as CoQ10 and alpha lipoic acid as well.
That’s not all tocotrienols can do. Rice-bran tocotrienols have been discovered contain phytochemicals that enhance cholesterol-lowering effect of tocotrienols. Patients whose cholesterol levels had remained unmodified by palm tocotrienols experienced dramatic reductions in LDL (the so-called “bad” cholesterol) and a 20 percent increase in HDL (“good” cholesterol) when switched to rice tocotrienols. More important, the total cholesterol-to-HDL ratio improved by 28 percent, which sharply reduces the risk of dying from heart disease. These natural antioxidants extracted from rice bran outperformed most of the lipid-lowering drugs, and are a promising alternative to statin drugs.
Another secret about tocotrienols benefit is the skin loves them. Research has found that ingested tocotrienols are readily taken up by cells in the skin, which suggests that they may have an important function against the aging effects of ozone and ultraviolet light without any side effects.
When it comes to vitamin E, the liver plays favorites; it contains a protein that sorts out the various forms of tocopherols and tocotrienols, and primarily selects alpha tocopherol to insert into the lipoproteins. Why the liver prefers alpha tocopherol is somewhat of a mystery and may not be in our best interest. The mechanism that conserves alpha tocopherol is probably inherited from preindustrial times when alpha tocopherol was very scarce in the diet. Because the body favors alpha tocopherol, many scientists have focused on this form of vitamin E to the exclusion of its important cousin – tocotrienols. However, researchers have now uncovered some fascinating new information about this neglected member of vitamin E tocotrienols.
Hovid Pure’s Ageless Bio-Optima has the complete blend of the whole spectrum of Vitamin E family. All the 8 isomers of tocopherols and tocotrienols are found in every softgel. This complete vitamin E provides the maximum antioxidant benefit towards our body.
